How you can weave your initials with 2 pieces of paper:
- Obtain 2 different colors of construction paper (like yellow and green).
- Fold one of them in half, the hamburger way (yellow piece).
- Starting from the fold, cut lines up until just before the end of the paper (don’t cut through the end). Cut a good amount of these lines (around 18 lines).
- Now grab the other piece of paper (green) and cut long strips all the way through (also the hamburger way).
- Use Excel to draft an idea of what your letters will look like. Use this program to fill in different boxes with color.
- Now hold the yellow paper vertically.
- In the first half of the paper (above the fold), you will make your first initial (mine is “M”).
- To make the top of an “M”: Take the green strip and thread it under the first 4 yellow pieces. Thread the strip over the next 3 yellow pieces. Thread the green strip under the next 7 yellow strips. Thread the green strip over the next 3 yellow pieces. Thread the green strip under the last 2 yellow pieces. This is the first line of the “M”.
- Repeat step 8 for the next 3 rows, as this constitutes the tip of the M.
- The rest of the letter will vary in placing the green strips over/under the yellow pieces.
- Next, below the fold on the yellow paper, begin your second initial by threading more of the green strips (mine is “H”).
- When both initials are complete, tape over the sides of the yellow paper so the green slips stay in place. Ideally, there would be no yellow spaces between the green slips.
